Q. Why do I need to clean my bin?
A. Uncleaned bins can become a significant hygiene hazard, harbouring bacteria that cause sickness that is quickly spread through human contact. Dirty bins are also a breeding ground for flies, cockroaches and rodents. Clean bins make your home environment much less attractive to these pests.
Q. How does Bright-A-Bins clean my bin?
A. Cleaning is performed by the Bright-A-Bins specially designed vehicles which pressure wash, disinfect and deoderise the bins during a rigorous cleaning process. This process removes bacteria, residues and insect egg capsules and pupa. An environmentally friendly pest repellent is then applied to the bin to prevent pest from returning.
Q. I clean my own bin. Why should I have Bright-A-Bins do this?
A. There are several problems and misnomers to cleaning your own bin approach. Effluent being drained into the stormwater system is both illegal and environmentally irresponsible. Not only are the chemicals potentially harmful, but the organic nutrients in your bin (common household foodstuffs) can cause problems associated with oxygen depletion in our waterways, leading to algal blooms, fish kills and other such dangers. Self-washing also uses comparatively large quantities of water. An average self-wash can use more than 10 times the amount of water that our trucks use to wash a bin. Add to this the time and unpleasantness of doing the task and you start to wonder why you wouldn't get Bright-A-Bins to do it for you!
Q. Why use Bright-A-Bins when I use bin liners to keep my bin clean?
A. Bin liners are a "tidy" rather than "clean" solution. The cost of bin liners can be anything up to 90% of the cost of our fortnightly service. It also adds even more plastic to the waste cycle, which we are trying to avoid.
Q. How do you prevent pests from returning to the bin?
A. Following our rigorous cleaning process, which breaks insect breeding cycles by removing insect egg capsules and pupa, we apply nature's most effective pest repellent "citronella oil" to ensure pests don't return between cleans.
Q. What sort of bacteria live in the bins?
A. Millions of different bacteria thrive in the confines of your bin. This includes harmful bacteria called "pathogens", which cause sickness such as food poisoning that can spreads through human contact. Such bacteria can quickly multiply if your bin is not cleaned regularly.
Q. How do you eliminate bin odours?
A. That unpleasant bin smell is a sign that bacteria are active in your bins. Our rigorous cleaning process scrubs and disinfects your bin, removing the bacteria that cause odours. We then spray the bin with Citronella Oil, which repels pests and leaves the bin with a fresh lemon aroma.
Q. How often are the bins cleaned?
A. Bins are cleaned fortnightly, on the same day as your rubbish removal.
Q. How much does the service cost?
A. Please see our "Rates" page for our latest pricing
Q. Where do I put my bin to take part in the service?
A. The service is performed on the same day as your rubbish removal. You simply leave your bin out as you would on rubbish day, and you'll collect a fragrant, fresh bin at the end of the day.
Q. What do I have to do to sign up?
A. You can sign up online or phone one of our friendly Bright-A-Bins Service Representatives on 0409 797 412. Your first bin cleaning service will start on the day of your next rubbish removal.
Q. What steps do you take to minimise water wastage?
A. The Bright-A-Bins bin cleaning service only uses 3 litres of water during the wash cycle, significantly less water than used during bin cleaning activities performed at home. We also retain all water in our trucks, to be treated at our approved facility and recycled into the sewerage system.
Q. Do you employ an environmentally friendly policy?
A. Yes, we employ a strict environmental policy that makes sure we do our part to protect the earth. You can read about our environmental policy in the environment section of our website.
